Some History

Antonio Tirado Carmona was born in Fuengirola in 1966, son of Antonio Tirado Jaime (Medical assistant in Fuengirola) and María Josefa Carmona Martín (Medical assistant and district midwife).

He studied at Ecos College in Marbella.

Just as he was 17 years old he obtained an outstanding qualification in his selectivity exam which enabled him to enter the Faculty of Medicine.

At the age of 23 he finished his Bachelor of Medicine with an amazing academic record and began his Doctoral studies.

At the age of 24 he passed his internships via MIR, obtaining a place for the specialization in pneumology at the Carlos Haya Hospital of Málaga. This when he completed his doctoral studies.

At the age of 25, he returned to the MIR internships to try to obtain his true vocational position in ophthalmology, obtaining a high qualification that allowed him to leave his pneumology position and opt for ophthalmology.

At the age of 26, after completing his military duties, he entered the Clinical Hospital of Málaga. There he began his specialisation studies through an internship (MIR) at the Málaga Clinical Hospital. After reading his doctoral thesis he obtained exceptional grades consequently he achieved the doctoral “Cum laude” honours degree.

At the age of 29 he obtained his position at the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella, where he has developed an extensive professional work and has participated in the creation of the Ophthalmology service of the Hospital. In 1997 he started his private activity in Fuengirola, with state-of-the-art facilities and ophthalmology technology, pioneering numerous surgical techniques in the province of Málaga (cataract surgery with phacoemulsification, myopia surgery, hyperopia and astigmatism with laser excimer and Lasik technique, etc.) and developing an intense surgical activity in several hospitals of the province.

Ten years ago he brought the best specialists in ophthalmology together and established the Costa del Sol Ophthalmological Institute, with new facilities in Doña Sofía Park in Fuengirola, opening two modern operating rooms specialized in ocular surgery, where currently and surrounded by a professional team, he carries out his professional activity, being a leader in numerous surgical techniques and a point of reference in South Andalusia.
